KARACHI: Omair Sana Foundation and Newport Institute of Communications and Economic have jointly taken out a walk to spread awareness in regard with thalassemia.
The walk was organized in connection with the OSF's week long campaign to end thalassemia.
Dr. Syed Rahat Hussain of OSF led the walk. A large number of the institute' s students and faculty members participated in the walk.Participants were carrying placards inscribed with demands to implement the legislation regarding thalassemia.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Rahat said that thalassemia has been spreading in the country with an alarming pace.
He said that upto 100,000 patients of thalassemia are prevailing in the country. As per conservative estimates the number of thalassemia major patients are increased by 5000 with each passing year. He expressed his sorrow that the legislation made in this regard by the provincial assembly of Sindh has not been implemented.
He stressed the need to must carrying out thalassemia test before marriage so as to eliminate this dreadful disease from the society.
Participants of the walk appreciated the contributions of OSF against thalassemia.
