Introduction to Omair Sana Foundation
Supporting Thalassemia Patients
OSF’s work goes beyond merely helping Thalassemia patients survive; they aim to ensure these individuals live healthy, fulfilling lives. In emergency and general relief situations, the foundation serves the broader community by addressing medical and social concerns. OSF’s focus spans from medical relief to advocacy, rehabilitation, reconstruction, and education, especially during natural or man-made calamities. The organization believes in a collective approach to achieve challenging goals.
The Story Behind OSF's Name
The name “Omair Sana Foundation” was inspired by Omair and Sana, the two children of Dr. Kashif Hussain Ansari, an Oncologist and Hematologist working in America. Both children suffered from a genetically oriented blood disorder, and despite having access to advanced medical resources, Dr. Ansari was unable to save them. Omair and Sana tragically passed away at the ages of 5 and 3, respectively.
The Foundation’s Genesis
After the loss of his children, Dr. Ansari was motivated to help others suffering from similar blood disorders in his home country, Pakistan. He recognized that if survival was limited even in a developed country like the United States, the situation would be far worse in Pakistan, where over 40% of people live below the poverty line. This realization led him to establish the Omair Sana Foundation.
Official Registration and Expansion
In 2003, Dr. Ansari officially registered the foundation as an NGO in both the USA and Pakistan. He was later joined in this noble cause by his younger brother, Saqib Hussain Ansari, a pediatric Hematologist specializing in blood diseases. Together, they focused on increasing awareness about Thalassemia and improving patient management in order to minimize and eventually eradicate the disease in Pakistan.

OSF’s Broader Humanitarian Efforts
Although Thalassemia remains the foundation’s primary focus, OSF also plays a vital role in providing relief beyond this domain. Their relief efforts include emergency response, rehabilitation, reconstruction, and the provision of social amenities during natural and man-made disasters, showcasing their commitment to serving humanity in all capacities.
